I made this trip in early February 2017, right after my sister’s wedding in London so I was already in good spirits!
I took the Eurostar to Brussels, then the German ICE train to Cologne, where I stopped for a quick drink by the station before catching a local train to Dusseldorf. A night exploring the Altstadt in Dusseldorf was followed by a trip the next morning on another ICE to Hannover, from where a quick change of trains got me to Hamburg (Hamburg station is the cover photo).
Two nights in Hamburg was followed by a trip to Amsterdam for my friends 40th birthday. It was messy. The Hamburg to Amsterdam journey was an on ICE to Osnabruck, where I changed from the high-level platforms on to the low-level ones, to pick up the Berlin – Amsterdam InterCity train (which I’d caught in the reverse direction the year before).
